At the Parque Cultural de Caribe ( Cultural Park of the Caribe,The presentation La Noche del Rio, presented traditional music and dance from the region of the rio Magdalena.

After making our way to the balcons food and drinks are passed around and everyone waits for the carnaval to start the march through the streets of Santa Tomas.

Saturday was Carnaval in Santo Tomas, a small village an hour east of Barranquilla. Over the years this has become my favorite of all the small pueblos, its small streets become packed with partiers, vendors, dacers, and floats. At times it is hard to tell the partiers from the preformers. Since this pueblo is a distance away a friend Camilo Cepeda organizes a bus and bleachers for friends and guest. In this image Camilo and Carlos Porto help get the party on the road for Santo Tomas.

The red or blue checkered Cumbia dresses of the women, and and the white lano shirt and pants of the men is the classic image of the Cumbiambero.
